Son Tec Quarter Horse Ranch

Son Tec Ranch is located in Westcliffe, Colorado, at the foot of the magnificent Sangre de Cristo mountains approximately 60 miles west of Pueblo.  A favorite pastime among locals is riding trails through some of the most breathtaking scenery in the country.

Margaret Lewis has collected good, solid mares with Foundation bloodlines, various colors and super dispositions to start Son Tec quarter horses.  Sontec's two studs, Garlic and Goodun, come from very different backgrounds and guarantee a wealth of color.  They are both so sweet and easy to get along with; and they both love human attention. 

Sontec mares all have wonderful dispositions to pass on to their offspring.  I think that the Foundation bloodlines contribute to that – also selection.  They are all sweet, quiet and willing to please.

Sontec foals are brought up to be good family, ranch, trail and/or show horses.  They should be versatile enough for anything.  We attempt to provide an athletic, quiet tempered, friendly, and trainable horse with a solid beginning.

Son Tec foals are pasture-raised from birth and soon become very friendly after a brief period of shyness when first turned out.  They spend their time out with their dams and other foals learning to be horses.  They run through gullies and trees, up and down hills, and play with each other as soon as they are ready developmentally.  Because of this activity in a varied terrain their feet and bones grow strong, their agility is assured, and they develop naturally.

We use Natural Horsemanship techniques with the foals.  We don’t exclusively follow any one trainer, but we have taken the best of what they all have to offer and developed our own methods.  The foals are touched all over, haltered from their first few days, pick up their feet, and learn to lead before weaning.

We adopted Taco, a miniature donkey, because his people didn't want him anymore. He's a riot. Very friendly. He went over 75 acres and visited with a neighbor who was sitting outside on a lawn chair.

Unfortunately, Taco also visits with a nearby stud who belongs to the witch and warlock. The stud's all alone and Taco likes to keep him company. I've heard about his past, and people used to find him all over. He has been staying home lately -- which is very unlike him! Maybe he likes us . . .
